The Central Theme and Topic of the Surah

Surah Al-Haqqah presents the Day of Judgement as an unavoidable reality that will expose the true value of human life. Its opening question draws attention to the gravity of this event. The destruction of Thamud, ‘Ad, Pharaoh, and other rebellious peoples demonstrates that divine warnings are never empty threats.

The surah then describes the great upheaval of resurrection. The earth and mountains are transformed, the sky is split, and people are brought forward with nothing of their conduct concealed. The record of deeds becomes a decisive sign of each person’s outcome.

Those who receive their record in the right hand rejoice because they had expected to face their account. Those who receive it in the left hand wish that they had never known the result. Wealth and worldly authority prove useless. The passage connects failure not only with rejecting Allah, but also with neglecting the feeding of the needy.

The final section affirms that the Quran is revelation from the Lord of all worlds, conveyed by an honoured messenger. It is neither poetry nor the speech of a soothsayer. The seriousness of attributing false words to Allah reinforces the absolute integrity required in conveying revelation. The central theme is that truth will become fully manifest at judgement. A person should therefore live with faith, social concern, and honest awareness of the coming account, rather than relying on wealth, influence, or the hope that responsibility can somehow be avoided.
