Hazrat Mufti Mahmood Ashraf Usmani Sahab RA was a distinguished Islamic scholar, jurist, and prolific author who served as the head of the Darul Ifta at Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi. Born in Lahore on 14 May 1951, he was the grandson of Mufti Muhammad Shafi Sahab RA — the founder of Darul Uloom Karachi — and a nephew of Mufti Taqi Usmani. He completed Dars-e-Nizami at Jamia Ashrafia, Lahore, pursued advanced studies at the Islamic University of Madinah, and from 1990 joined Darul Uloom Karachi where he taught Sahih al-Bukhari and served as a Mufti. He issued over a hundred thousand fatwas and authored more than thirty-five books covering Hadith, Fiqh, Tafseer, and Tasawwuf. For several years he delivered weekly Tafseer lectures every Sunday at Jamia Masjid Bait ul Mukarram, Karachi — covering Surahs from Jumuah to Shoora.
