Ayat-e-Kareema is a powerful dua found in the Qur’an in Surah Al-Anbiya (verse 87). It was recited by Hazrat Yunus (علیہ السلام) when he was in the belly of the whale. It is a complete expression of repentance, humility, and turning back to Allah, and is widely recited for relief from difficulties and acceptance of دعا.

تیرے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، تو پاک ہے، بے شک میں ہی قصورواروں میں سے ہوں۔
Ayat-e-Kareema: A Dua Born in Complete Hopelessness, Yet Full of Hope
Ayat-e-Kareema comes from one of the most intense moments in the life of Hazrat Yunus (علیہ السلام). He was in darkness upon darkness—inside the belly of a whale, deep in the ocean, cut off from the world, with no apparent way out. From a worldly perspective, there was absolutely no hope.
Yet, in that moment of complete helplessness, he did not give up. He turned to Allah with full conviction. This is what makes this dua so powerful. It is not just a dua for ease—it is a dua made when there is no visible way out, yet the heart still holds hope in Allah.
This teaches a fundamental lesson:
No matter how hopeless a situation looks, Allah can change it completely. Just as He brought Yunus (علیہ السلام) out from the depths of the ocean, He can bring relief from any situation.
A Complete Model of Turning to Allah
This short dua contains everything a believer needs when calling upon Allah. It is not long, but it is complete. It teaches you how to approach Allah in the right way, especially when facing difficulties.
Within these few words, three powerful elements come together:
- Tawheed (Oneness of Allah) → La ilaha illa anta
- Tasbeeh (Declaring Allah’s perfection) → Subhanaka
- Admission of fault (Humility and repentance) → Inni kuntu minaz-zalimeen
Instead of directly asking for help, Yunus (علیہ السلام) first corrected his relationship with Allah. He acknowledged Allah’s greatness, declared His perfection, and admitted his own shortcomings. This is the state in which a dua becomes powerful and sincere.
Allah’s Promise of Relief for Believers
After mentioning this incident, Allah gives a general message for all believers. He explains that just as Yunus (علیہ السلام) was saved through this dua, believers will also be granted relief when they turn to Him with sincerity.
This means the lesson is not limited to one prophet. It applies to every believer who:
- Turns to Allah with sincerity
- Accepts their ضعف (weakness)
- Places full trust in Allah
Relief is not tied to the situation—it is tied to the connection with Allah.
Its Acceptance in Hadith
The Prophet ﷺ emphasized the importance of this dua by saying that the supplication of Yunus (علیہ السلام), when made in the belly of the fish, is such that any Muslim who calls upon Allah with these words for a need will have their dua accepted.
This highlights that Ayat-e-Kareema is not just a story from the past. It is a living dua for every believer facing difficulty today.
Reciting Ayat-e-Kareema Wazifa for a Specific Purpose
Many people adopt the practice of reciting Ayat-e-Kareema regularly for solving problems or achieving certain goals. While this is encouraged in spirit, it is important to understand the correct scholarly perspective.
There is no fixed number mentioned in the Qur’an or Hadith for reciting this dua. Numbers such as:
- 313 times
- 41 days continuously
- 70,000 times
come from the experiences of pious elders, not from direct textual evidence.
So the balanced understanding is:
- You may choose a number for consistency and discipline
- But you should not believe that a specific number is required or Sunnah
- The real effect comes from sincerity, focus, and turning to Allah
What This Dua Teaches You
Ayat-e-Kareema shifts your mindset in a very powerful way. Instead of reacting to problems with panic or frustration, it teaches you to respond with humility and hope.
It reminds you:
- Even in complete darkness, Allah is near
- Even when no solution is visible, Allah can create one
- Even when you feel at fault, Allah’s mercy is still open
In simple terms, this dua is your way of saying:
- Allah, only You can help me
- You are perfect, and I am not
- I admit my mistakes and turn back to You
And when a believer reaches this level of sincerity, Allah’s help comes—often in ways that cannot be imagined.
