The Central Theme and Topic of the Surah

Surah Al-Qadr celebrates the honour of the Quran’s revelation and the extraordinary blessing of the Night of Qadr. Its opening attributes the sending down of the Quran directly to Allah, reminding believers that guidance is a gift of divine mercy rather than a human achievement.

The surah asks what can convey the greatness of this night, then declares it better than a thousand months. This comparison directs attention to the immense value Allah can place in a brief period of sincere worship. The worth of time is therefore not measured only by its duration, but by the blessing and opportunity it contains.

The angels and Jibril descend by their Lord’s permission concerning His commands. Their descent emphasises the dignity of the night and the complete authority of Allah over the affairs of creation. The surah closes by describing peace that continues until dawn.

Ma’ariful Qur’an connects these verses with the encouragement to seek the night through worship, repentance, and prayer, particularly in the last ten nights of Ramadan. The central theme is gratitude for revelation and eagerness to receive Allah’s mercy. Believers are invited to value the Quran, make good use of blessed opportunities, and seek forgiveness with hope. The surah presents a night of immense spiritual promise, calling the heart away from distraction and towards a sincere relationship with the Lord who revealed the Book.
