And may Allah send blessings upon our master Muhammad ﷺ, and upon his family and companions, and grant them abundant peace.

Explanation of Takbeerat-e-Eid
Takbeerat-e-Eid are among the beautiful outward signs of Eid. They are not just words to be recited in the Eid prayer itself. Rather, they are part of the atmosphere of Eid.
As Muslims head towards the Eid prayer, they glorify Allah with these Takbeerat, and this fills the roads, neighborhoods, and gathering places with the remembrance of Allah.
The day is one of happiness, but that happiness is not empty enjoyment. It is tied to gratitude, worship, and the public glorification of Allah.
The basic meaning of these Takbeerat is clear and powerful. The repeated words “Allahu Akbar” place Allah above everything.
Above celebration, above worldly joy, above food, clothes, gatherings, and all the visible excitement of Eid. Then comes “La ilaha illa Allah”, which renews the believer’s declaration of Tawheed.
After that, “wa lillahil hamd” teaches that every blessing, every success in worship, and every joy of Eid belongs back to Allah in praise.
The additional phrases such as “Allahu Akbar kabeera, walhamdu lillahi katheera, wa subhan Allahi bukratan wa aseela” further increase the spirit of glorification, praise, and tasbeeh, and the sending of salat and salam upon the Prophet ﷺ adds love and honor for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as part of this blessed occasion.
The concept behind reciting these Takbeerat on the way to Eid prayer is very beautiful. It is a Sunnah-based practice that those going for Eid prayer should engage in Takbeer in a slightly raised voice, enough that at least the person reciting can hear it, or someone right next to them can hear it.
The purpose is not shouting in a disorderly way, but making the remembrance of Allah visible and alive in public. When Muslims collectively go for Eid prayer while glorifying Allah, it creates a powerful sense that Allah’s greatness is being proclaimed everywhere. Streets are no longer just filled with people going to a gathering.
They are filled with believers praising Allah for His greatness and for blessing them with the day of Eid.
This is part of what makes Eid feel Islamic in its true sense. It is not just a social event. It is a day where the Muslim community openly remembers Allah together. Men, women, families, and children all become part of a shared public remembrance.
This collective Takbeer creates unity, joy, and spiritual presence. It turns the journey to the Eid prayer into an act of worship itself.
These Takbeerat are recited on both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. In Eid al-Fitr, they come after the completion of Ramadan, as a way of glorifying Allah for guiding the believers to fast, worship, and complete the month.
In Eid al-Adha, they come in the days of Hajj and qurbani (sacrifice), connecting the believers to the spirit of obedience shown by Ibrahim (علیہ السلام).
So in both Eids, the Takbeerat carry the same message: Allah gave the ability to worship, Allah granted the blessing of the day, and Allah alone deserves to be glorified.
Scholars have also mentioned that the wording of Eid Takbeer is broad in scope. Different wordings have been reported from the Salaf, and the matter has room in it. The core purpose is the glorification of Allah, and a number of accepted forms are mentioned by the scholars.
So the well-known Takbeer along with additional phrases of praise and tasbeeh may be recited, and this falls within the broader spirit of Eid remembrance.
In simple words, Takbeerat-e-Eid mean:
- Allah is greater than everything that is making this day joyful
- This Eid is a gift from Allah
- Worship has ended, but remembrance continues
- Muslims should fill the day and the الطريق to Eid prayer with Allah’s praise
That is why Eid Takbirs matter so much. They make Eid a day of joy, but also a day of public gratitude, public remembrance, and public glorification of Allah.
