Dua After Adhan in Arabic with Translation

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْقَائِمَةِ، آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الْوَسِيلَةَ وَالْفَضِيلَةَ، وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ

This dua is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith #614). The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever recites this dua after hearing the Adhan will be granted his intercession on the Day of Judgment.

Some people add extra phrases in this dua such as:

• وَالدَّرَجَةَ الرَّفِيعَةَ
• وَارْزُقْنَا شَفَاعَتَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

These additions are not found in authentic (Sahih) hadith for this specific dua.

Transliteration:

Allāhumma rabba hādhihid-daʿwatit-tāmmati waṣ-ṣalātil-qāʾimah, āti Muḥammadan al-wasīlata wal-faḍīlah, wabʿath-hu maqāman maḥmūdan alladhī waʿadtah

English Translation:

“O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad ﷺ the Waseelah and excellence, and raise him to the Praised Station which You have promised him.”

Urdu Translation:

اے اللہ! اس کامل پکار کے رب اور قائم ہونے والی نماز کے رب، محمد ﷺ کو وسیلہ عطا فرما اور فضیلت عطا فرما، اور انہیں مقامِ محمود تک پہنچا دے جس کا تُو نے ان سے وعدہ فرمایا ہے۔

This dua is recited after the Adhan as a response to Allah’s call and as an expression of love and honor for the Prophet ﷺ. In it, we ask Allah to grant the Prophet ﷺ Al-Waseelah, the highest rank in Jannah reserved for one servant, and Maqām-e-Maḥmūd, the مقام of praise where the Prophet ﷺ will intercede for the Ummah on the Day of Judgment.

By reciting this dua, a believer connects with the Adhan, renews their faith, and hopes for the Prophet’s ﷺ intercession in the Hereafter.

Many prominent scholars have also highlighted something beautiful about this dua: its acceptance is virtually certain, because in it we are asking Allah to grant the Prophet ﷺ a مقام that He has already promised. Since Allah does not go against His promise, this supplication is expected to be accepted, in shā’ Allāh.

Dr. Abdul Hai Arifi (رحمہ اللہ), the spiritual mentor of Mufti Taqi Usmani and a senior khalifah of Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (رحمہ اللہ), said that because this dua is accepted, one should immediately make a personal dua afterward.

He would recommend reciting:

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

He would say that this was his own practice and the practice of many كبار علماء he had seen. He shared that he made it a habit to ask Allah for his most important needs at this moment and, by Allah’s grace, witnessed their acceptance.

How to Read the Dua After Adhan

Here's how you should read the Dua after Azan.

1. Respond to the Adhan

When you hear the Adhan, repeat the same words after the Mu’adhin.

Exception, when you hear:

حي على الصلاة / حي على الفلاح

Say: لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله

2. Send Durood upon the Prophet ﷺ

After the Adhan finishes, send blessings on the Prophet ﷺ. You can read any form of Durood, including:

• بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ
• اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ
• Or Durood Ibrahim

3. Read the Dua After Adhan
