Yom e Arafah Dua With Translation

Transliteration

Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu wa huwa ‘alā kulli shay’in qadīr

English Translation

There is no god except Allah, alone, without any partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty, and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over everything.

Understanding the Depth of the Arafah Dua

If you look closely, this dua is very unique.

There is no request in it. No asking. No حاجت. No demand.

Why?

Because this is the very dua that the Prophet ﷺ emphasized on the Day of Arafah — the most powerful day for making dua.

Arif Billah Hazrat Maulana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Sahab RA explained a beautiful wisdom behind this.

This dua is pure praise of Allah.

Think of it this way

A فقیر stands before a king. Instead of asking for specific things, he begins praising the king — his generosity, his power, his greatness.

When the king becomes pleased, he doesn’t give based on what the فقیر asked. He gives based on his own status.

Now apply this to Allah.

If a person asks, they ask with limited understanding. You and I don’t fully know what’s best for us. We might ask for something that harms us… or miss something far better.

And Arafah is not an ordinary moment. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many.

So instead of leaving it to people to ask for random things, the Prophet ﷺ guided us towards something higher:

Just praise Allah.

When Allah is praised, His mercy is stirred. And when He gives, He gives like the King of all kings — beyond what you can imagine, beyond what you can ask.

This dua acknowledges:

  • His Oneness
  • His absolute ملك (ownership)
  • His complete حمد (praise)
  • His unlimited قدرت (power)

And when all of that is affirmed sincerely… the عطا (giving) that follows is far greater than any specific dua.

That’s the beauty of this dhikr.
