 اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ عَلَى نَفْسِيْ وَدِيْنِيْ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ أَعْطَانِيْ رَبِّيْ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَيْرِ الأَسْمَاءِ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِيْ لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ دَاءٌ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ افْتَتَحْتُ وَ عَلَى اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ، اللَّهُ اللَّهُ رَبِّيْ لَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ أَحَدًا، أَسْأَلُكَ اللَّهُمَّ بِخَيْرِكَ مِنْ خَيْرِكَ الَّذِيْ لَا يُعْطِيْهِ أَحَدٌ غَيْرُكَ عَزَّ جَارُكَ وَجَلَّ ثَنَاؤُكَ وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ، اِجْعَلْنِيْ فِيْ عِيَاذِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ سُلْطَانٍ وَّمِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَحْتَرِسُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ جَمِيْعِ كُلِّ ذِيْ شَرٍّ خَلَقْتَهُ وَ أَحْتَرِزُ بِكَ مِنْهُمْ وَ أُقَدِّمُ بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيْمِ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ، اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ، لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ، وَمِنْ خَلْفِيْ مِثْلُ ذَالِكَ وَعَنْ يَّمِيْنِيْ مِثْلُ ذَالِكَ وَعَنْ يِّسَارِيْ مِثْلُ ذَالِكَ وَمِنْ فَوْقِيْ مِثْلُ ذَالِكَ

Transliteration

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.

Bismillahi ‘ala nafsi wa deeni,

Bismillahi ‘ala kulli shay’in a‘taani Rabbi,

Bismillahi khayril asmaa,

Bismillahil lazi la yadurru ma‘asmihi daa’un,

Bismillahi iftatahtu wa ‘alallahi tawakkaltu.

Allahu Allahu Rabbi la ushriku bihi ahada.

As’aluka Allahumma bikhairika min khairikal lazi la yu‘teehi ahadun ghairuka.

‘Azza jaaruka wa jalla thanaa’uka wa la ilaha ghairuka.

Ij‘alni fi ‘iyaazika min sharri kulli sultaanin wa minash shaitaanir rajeem.

Allahumma inni ahtarisu bika min sharri jamee‘i kulli zee sharrin khalaqtahu, wa ahtarizu bika minhum, wa uqaddimu baina yadayya:

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.

Qul huwallahu Ahad.

Allahus Samad.

Lam yalid wa lam yoolad.

Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan Ahad.

Wa min khalfii mithlu zaalika, wa ‘an yameeni mithlu zaalika, wa ‘an yasaari mithlu zaalika, wa min fawqii mithlu zaalika.

Urdu Translation

اللّٰہ سب سے بڑا ہے، اللّٰہ سب سے بڑا ہے، اللّٰہ سب سے بڑا ہے۔

اللّٰہ کے نام کے ساتھ میں اپنی جان اور اپنے دین کیلئے حفاظت چاہتا ہوں۔

اللّٰہ کے نام کے ساتھ میں ہر اُس چیز کیلئے حفاظت چاہتا ہوں جو میرے رب نے مجھے عطا فرمائی ہے۔

اللّٰہ کے نام کے ساتھ، جو تمام ناموں میں سب سے بہتر ہے۔

اُس اللّٰہ کے نام کے ساتھ کہ جس کے نام کے ہوتے ہوئے کوئی بیماری نقصان نہیں پہنچا سکتی۔

اللّٰہ کے نام کے ساتھ میں نے آغاز کیا اور اللّٰہ ہی پر میں نے بھروسہ کیا۔

اللّٰہ، اللّٰہ میرا رب ہے، میں اُس کے ساتھ کسی کو شریک نہیں کرتا۔

اے اللّٰہ! میں تجھ سے تیرے اُس خاص فضل اور بھلائی کا سوال کرتا ہوں جو تیرے سوا کوئی اور عطا نہیں کرسکتا۔

تیری پناہ غالب ہے، تیری تعریف بہت بلند ہے، اور تیرے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں۔

مجھے اپنی پناہ میں رکھ ہر ظالم حاکم کے شر سے اور شیطان مردود کے شر سے۔

اے اللّٰہ! میں تیری پناہ چاہتا ہوں ہر اُس مخلوق کے شر سے جس میں تو نے کوئی شر رکھا ہے۔

اور میں تیرے ذریعے اُن سب سے حفاظت حاصل کرتا ہوں۔

اور میں اپنے آگے یہ پڑھ کر حفاظت رکھتا ہوں:

اللّٰہ کے نام سے شروع جو نہایت مہربان، بہت رحم فرمانے والا ہے۔

آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ اللّٰہ ایک ہے۔

اللّٰہ سب سے بے نیاز ہے۔

نہ اُس کی کوئی اولاد ہے اور نہ وہ کسی کی اولاد ہے۔

اور کوئی اُس کے برابر نہیں۔

اور اپنے پیچھے بھی اسی طرح حفاظت رکھتا ہوں۔

اور اپنے دائیں طرف بھی اسی طرح۔

اور اپنے بائیں طرف بھی اسی طرح۔

اور اپنے اوپر بھی اسی طرح۔

English Translation

Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest.

In the name of Allah, I seek protection for my life and my religion.

In the name of Allah, I seek protection for everything my Lord has granted me.

In the name of Allah, the best of all names.

In the name of Allah, with whose name no illness can cause harm.

In the name of Allah I begin, and upon Allah I place my trust.

Allah, Allah is my Lord, and I associate no partner with Him.

O Allah, I ask You for Your goodness, from that special goodness which none besides You can grant.

Mighty is Your protection, exalted is Your praise, and there is no deity besides You.

Place me in Your protection from the evil of every tyrant ruler and from the accursed devil.

O Allah, I seek Your protection from the evil of every harmful thing You have created.

And through You I seek safety from them.

And I place before me:

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Say: He is Allah, the One.

Allah, the Eternal Refuge.

He neither begets nor is born.

And there is none equal to Him.

And behind me I place the same protection.

And on my right I place the same protection.

And on my left I place the same protection.

And above me I place the same protection.

Background of Dua e Anas bin Malik

This famous dua is attributed to Anas ibn Malik, one of the greatest companions of the Prophet ﷺ.

Hazrat Anas رضي الله عنه served the Prophet ﷺ for around ten years and narrated thousands of hadith. Because of his closeness to the Prophet ﷺ, many duas and Sunnahs reached the Ummah through him.

The background most commonly associated with this dua relates to the time of Hajjaj bin Yusuf, a ruthless ruler known for his ظلم and harsh treatment of Muslims and scholars.

Hazrat Anas رضي الله عنه openly criticized Hajjaj’s ظلم. When Hajjaj summoned him to his court, he intended to punish him severely.

According to traditional narrations, Hazrat Anas رضي الله عنه said:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me a dua. Whoever reads it will remain under Allah’s protection, and no tyrant will be able to overpower him.”

He told Hajjaj that he had already read this dua that morning.

The narration mentions that Hajjaj became terrified because he saw lions surrounding Hazrat Anas رضي الله عنه as if guarding him. Out of fear, he released him without harming him.

Later, Hazrat Anas رضي الله عنه taught this dua to his son, and it spread among the scholars and pious Muslims of the Ummah as a powerful dua for protection.
