Rami Al Jamarat Dua for Stoning the Devil in Hajj
Transliteration
Bismillāhi, Allāhu Akbar, raghman lish-shayṭān wa riḍan lir-Raḥmān, Allāhummaj‘alhu ḥajjan mabrūran wa dhanban maghfūran wa sa‘yan mashkūrā.
English Translation
In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest.
(We do this) in humiliation of Satan and seeking the pleasure of the Most Merciful.
O Allah, make this a blessed and accepted Hajj, forgive sins, and accept this effort.
When To Read This Dua
This dua is read during Hajj at the time of Rami al-Jamarat when the pilgrim throws pebbles at the Jamarat (the symbolic stoning of Shaytan).
The pilgrim says:
while throwing each pebble, and then reads the remaining dua asking Allah Ta‘ala to accept the Hajj, forgive sins, and reward the effort.
Explanation
This dua reminds the pilgrim about the real spirit and purpose of Hajj. During Rami al-Jamarat, a Muslim symbolically stones Shaytan in remembrance of the incident when Prophet Ibrahim rejected the whispers of Shaytan and remained completely obedient to Allah Ta‘ala.
The words “رَغْماً لِلشَّیْطَانِ” mean humiliating and opposing Shaytan, showing that a believer rejects temptation, sin, pride, and disobedience. By saying “وَرِضاً لِلرَّحْمٰنِ,” the pilgrim declares that every action of Hajj is done only to seek the pleasure of Allah. The act is not merely throwing stones at pillars, but renewing the promise to fight one’s inner desires and the traps of Shaytan throughout life.
After completing the stoning, the pilgrim asks Allah to grant a Hajj Mabroor, which means a sincere and accepted Hajj that changes a person’s life for the better. The dua also includes a request for forgiveness of sins and acceptance of all the physical, financial, and emotional efforts made during the journey of Hajj.
