Dua After Drinking Zam Zam Water (Audio) with Translation

Arabic

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْئَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَّافِعًا وَّرِزْقًا وَّاسِعًا وَّشِفَاءً مِّنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ

Transliteration

Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman naafi‘an, wa rizqan waasi‘an, wa shifaa’an min kulli daa’.

Urdu Translation

اے اللّٰہ! میں تجھ سے نفع دینے والا علم، کشادہ رزق، اور ہر بیماری سے شفا مانگتا ہوں۔

English Translation

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and healing from every illness.

Explanation

This beautiful dua is commonly read after drinking Zamzam Well water because Zam Zam is not considered ordinary water in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ described it as blessed water and taught that it is “for whatever purpose it is drunk.” That is why this dua asks for three of the greatest blessings a person can have in life: beneficial knowledge, abundant halal provision, and complete healing. The dua is deeply meaningful because it focuses not only on worldly needs but on things that truly improve a person’s life and Hereafter. It does not ask merely for wealth, but for رزق with barakah. It does not ask for just knowledge, but knowledge that benefits a person and brings them closer to Allah. And it asks Allah for healing from every illness, both physical and spiritual. Muslims throughout history have made heartfelt duas while drinking Zam Zam because it is a moment associated with hope, barakah, and acceptance of دعا.

What Is Zam Zam?

Zamzam Well is the blessed well located beside the Kaaba inside Masjid al-Haram in Makkah.

According to Islamic tradition, the well first sprang forth thousands of years ago when حضرت ہاجرہ علیہا السلام was desperately searching for water for her baby son, حضرت اسماعیل علیہ السلام, in the desert. As she ran between the hills of Safa and Marwah, Allah sent Angel Jibreel علیہ السلام, who caused water to gush from the ground near Ismail علیہ السلام.

That water became Zam Zam.

For thousands of years, Allah has preserved this miraculous well, and millions of pilgrims continue to drink from it every year.

Sunnah Method of Drinking Zam Zam

The scholars mention several etiquettes and Sunnahs regarding drinking Zam Zam:

1. Face the Qiblah

It is recommended to face the Qiblah while drinking Zam Zam.

2. Drink While Standing

The Prophet ﷺ drank Zam Zam while standing. However, if someone drinks sitting down, there is no sin or problem.

3. Say Bismillah

Begin by saying:

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ

4. Drink in Three Sips

Like normal Sunnah drinking etiquette, many scholars recommend drinking it in pauses rather than all at once.

5. Drink With a Dua and Intention

One of the unique things about Zam Zam is that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Zam Zam water is for whatever intention it is drunk for.”

People therefore drink it while making sincere duas for:

• forgiveness,
• healing,
• knowledge,
• رزق,
• righteous children,
• protection,
• or any permissible need.

6. Read the Dua After Drinking

Many scholars and righteous Muslims read this dua after drinking:
