Janazah Dua for a Baby Boy (Nabaligh Ladka)

Arabic

اللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا فَرَطًا، وَاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا أَجْرًا وَذُخْرًا، وَاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا شَافِعًا وَمُشَفَّعًا

Transliteration

Allahummaj‘alhu lana faratan, waj‘alhu lana ajran wa zukhran, waj‘alhu lana shafi‘an wa mushaffa‘a.

Urdu Translation

اے اللّٰہ! اس بچے کو ہمارے لیے آگے جا کر سامانِ آخرت بنادے،

اور اسے ہمارے لیے اجر اور ذخیرہ بنادے،

اور اسے ہمارے لیے سفارش کرنے والا اور مقبول سفارش والا بنادے۔

English Translation

O Allah, make this child a forerunner for us,

and make him a source of reward and treasure for us,

and make him an intercessor for us whose intercession is accepted.

Explanation of This Dua

This janazah dua is specifically for a baby boy or a child who passed away before reaching the age of puberty and responsibility (نابالغ).

Unlike the janazah dua for an adult, this dua does not ask Allah to forgive the child’s sins, because in Islam a small child is innocent and free from sin. A baby or young child is not accountable for deeds before reaching maturity.

Instead, this dua focuses on the parents and family. We ask Allah Ta‘ala to:

  • Grant the parents patience (صبر)
  • Preserve and increase their reward (اجر)
  • Make the child a means of mercy and salvation for them in the Hereafter
  • Make the child an intercessor whose recommendation is accepted by Allah

The word “faratan” means someone who goes ahead and waits lovingly for others. In this context, it means the child goes ahead to Jannah and waits for his parents.

The Prophet ﷺ gave immense hope to parents who lose young children. He taught that when believing parents remain patient and seek reward from Allah after the death of their child, Allah grants them tremendous reward and mercy. In many narrations, children who pass away young are described as becoming a means for their parents’ entry into Paradise.

So this dua is both a prayer of grief and a prayer of hope. It reminds the family that although the loss is painful, Allah can turn that pain into eternal reward and reunion in Jannah.

May Allah Ta‘ala grant all deceased Muslim children Jannatul Firdaus and grant sabr and immense reward to their families. Ameen.
