The Dua for Eid Al-Adha Sacrifice

1. Arabic Text

Before slaughter:

2. Transliteration

Before slaughter:

Inni wajjahtu wajhiya lillazī faṭaras-samāwāti wal-arḍa ḥanīfan wa mā ana minal-mushrikīn. Inna ṣalātī wa nusukī wa maḥyāya wa mamātī lillāhi rabbil-‘ālamīn.
Allāhumma minka wa laka
Bismillāhi Allāhu Akbar

3. English Translation

  • “Indeed, I have turned my face toward the One who created the heavens and the earth, inclining purely to Him, and I am not among those who associate partners with Him.
  • Surely my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are for Allah, the Lord of all worlds.”
  • “O Allah, this is from You and for You.”
  • “In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest.”

4. Urdu Translation

Explanation

This dua captures the real روح (spirit) of the Eid Al-Adha Qurbani which is about surrendering yourself to Allah.

When you recite “Inni wajjahtu wajhiya…”, you are declaring that you have turned completely toward Allah alone. You are rejecting all forms of shirk and distractions.

This moment connects you directly to the legacy of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), who showed complete obedience to Allah.

Then comes the powerful line:

“Inna salati wa nusuki…” — here you’re saying your prayer, sacrifice, life, and death are all for Allah. That means Qurbani is not an isolated act; it represents your entire lifestyle being for Allah.

When you say “Allahumma minka wa laka”, you acknowledge something very deep:

👉 This animal came from Allah

👉 The ability to sacrifice also came from Allah

👉 And now you’re giving it back purely for Him

Finally, “Bismillah Allahu Akbar” is the moment of action. You begin the sacrifice with Allah’s name and declare His greatness above everything.

So Qurbani is not just cutting an animal—it’s a statement:

“Ya Allah, everything I have is from You, and I am willing to give it back for Your sake.”
