The Main Themes and Topics Covered in This Juzz/Para of the Holy Quran

Para 17, known as Iqtaraba Linnaas, opens with a warning that humanity’s accounting draws near while many remain distracted. Surah Al-Anbiya challenges the dismissal of revelation and explains that earlier messengers were human beings who received guidance from Allah.

The surah presents signs of divine power in creation and rejects the idea of rival gods. Life and death are part of a test, and every soul must return to Allah.

The certainty of judgment gives urgency to the call to worship Him alone. Ibrahim’s confrontation with his people exposes the helplessness of their idols.

After he challenges their beliefs, they attempt to burn him, but Allah protects him. His deliverance demonstrates that worldly power cannot defeat Allah’s command.

Accounts of other prophets show different forms of trial and divine assistance. Nuh is rescued, Dawud and Sulayman receive judgment and knowledge, Ayyub is relieved after suffering, and Yunus is delivered after calling upon Allah in distress.

Zakariyya’s prayer is answered, and Maryam’s chastity is honoured. These accounts affirm the unity of the prophets’ religion.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is described as a mercy to the worlds, and the surah closes by directing judgment and help to Allah. Surah Al-Hajj begins with powerful descriptions of the Last Hour.

Human development and the revival of barren land are offered as signs of resurrection. Worship based only on favourable circumstances is criticised.

The establishment of the Sacred House, Ibrahim’s call to pilgrimage, and the rites of sacrifice receive attention. Respect for Allah’s symbols reflects taqwa, while the acceptance of sacrifice depends on devotion rather than flesh or blood.

Permission to fight is given to people who have suffered oppression. The closing verses call believers to prayer, zakat, steadfast service, and holding firmly to Allah.

Faith is expressed through worship, patience, sacrifice, and responsibility towards the community.

Selected tafsir references (Ma’ariful Qur’an): 21:51; 21:83; 22:26; 22:39.
